More Hamburg, more Leipzig

Walked around the neighborhood in the morning, took a photo of a place called the Bieberhaus for my Justin Bieber obsessed friend, and hit a bakery (of course!). There was a really cute shop around the corner that had all manner of overpriced but hipster things, like fancy liquor in a limited-edition hip flask or precious chocolates and whathaveyou. If I was richer I would have bought it all…ah well. We also found a Saturn, which in Germany is not a car shop – it’s a huge electronics place, much like Best Buy except the one in Hamburg has like five floors and two movie theatres. It was very much a museum of electronics, and after the expensive museums yesterday, we spent quite a bit of time in there, laughing at things – hey, it was free at least!

We also hit the Museum of Arts and Crafts (okay, not really, but that’s how it was translated in our guidemap) to see what could possibly be in there. Turns out, lots of tiny pianos and other strange instruments, some music paraphernalia from an artist we didn’t recognize, a Stieglitz photo (!! Makes my taking photo history class legit!!) and some really cool Japanese hand-cut paper art. Among other things. Watch out, we’re approaching museum saturation again!

After another burger (yum!) it was time to get ourselves back to Leipzig. Peter had booked the very fancy Radisson BLU this time, since he knew it had a really great view. And he was correct! But more than that, the room was so fancy it was ridiculous – the shower stall was encased in completely clear glass, which was hilarious but also would have been really awkward if we weren’t dating. We also had a TV, work desk, and all sorts of stuff – but the most important thing, internet, was quite expensive and slow. BOOOO. Silly fancy hotels. Also, their rotating entrance actually has a little seascape embedded in the doors. Truly weird.

Anyway, off to the Bayerisher bahnhof for dinner! This is an old train station that’s now a restaurant and brewhaus, and they make some interesting stuff. Aside from the beers, which were fine (I guess?), they also make a beer brandy and a sweet rye-based liquor. The latter was totally strange but intriguing…like a sweet shot of rye bread. I wasn’t compelled to buy a whole bottle but I was glad I tried it!
