Some snippets from late May and early June:
Went with a few SWE folks to see the Blue Man Group as they toured through Pittsburgh (after, it should be noted, some delicious drinks&food from Seviche. This is certainly a performance that can only get better with alcohol).

On May 17th, Peter came home! With the densest of suitcases! After quite a lot of naps, the first event we attended together was the Pittsburgh Dumpling Experiment, which was quite fun. I mean, who DOESN'T like dumplings, perogies, ravioli, and the like? We also did some extensive shopping since we were already out by the mall. Pretty funny, really.

Then it was off to see Steve graduate! Main emotions of the weekend: swelteringly hot, super proud, teetering on the precipice of feeling old. This is probably my favorite picture I took that weekend. Peter and I also slipped away to spend some
quality time (and drink some quality cider) with best college buds Matt and Una. We miss them a lot! Glad to introduce them to Woodchuck Spring. :)

In early June (Peter's birthday, in fact!) his sister Sara and mother Sylvia drove through on their way to Newark from Iowa. We hit up the Science center to see the transit of venus, and though it was cloudy, they put the NASA feed up for us. Dinner was Abay and a David Coffaro wine, wee!

We celebrated Peter's birthday weekend by driving to Cleveland to see The Shins! The two opening bands were not very exciting, though, so I don't feel we were properly primed for the main event, but we enjoyed ourselves anyway. Bonus ironic note: the bouncers assigned blue (21+) or red (<21) wristbands to everyone, and Peter was assigned a red one twice - even after the bouncer re-checked his license! Teehee.

On the next (hot!) weekend, I followed some friends downtown to attend the Pride parade. Very heartened to see the police keeping the protesters in line, and really, who can be so hateful when everyone brings their pup to the parade?! It was terribly cute. I also stopped by to hear the River City Brass at the Three Rivers Arts Fest. Lovely! I topped off the day by listening to the Bonnaroo live feed, too. Very relaxing.

A bit later in the month, we hosted a DE-MI car swap. Turns out Pittsburgh is pretty much smack between Ann Arbor, where Emily goes to school, and Delaware, so her mother and my mom came out to meet Emily and Yu-yu. We took the moms, who arrived earlier on Friday, to Verde and had a lovely dinner. The next day was really the main event, though. I had reserved a bunch of Wigle whiskey tour tickets (my fourth time through!) for the clan and suffice to say, Tina wasn't a whiskey person before but I think she was converted that day. Hooray! Mom also generously bought some 95% rye whiskey, a new offering (good thing we held out!), to age in a little barrel for when she'll be up later in July. We'll talk about that when we get to it. ;) Anyway, the Strip on Saturdays is full of delightful things, and I think we may have subsequently found all of them. We had chocolate, we got a boatload of stuff at Penzeys, we went to the Pittsburgh Public Market for East End Brewery samples and wine samples, and swung to Kaya for lunch. There we continued imbibing (rum flights! caphirinas!) and had some tasty food. We just HAPPENED to walk by yet another wine sample shop and Peace, Love, & Donuts before the Strip tour was up; this was, apparently, the last straw on the over-the-top afternoon. I was very amused. More amusing was that everyone took a little cat nap when we returned to the apartment. I hadn't planned much more, so that was convenient. Emily and Yu-yu returned to MI shortly thereafter, and we took the moms to Avenue B for a very light dinner. Woo! A successful visit, and I hope we can do it again. I miss everyone! :)
